Bible Verses for Police Officers

There has always been a special place in my heart for police officers.

Their calling is unlike any other—a call of sacrifice, courage, and selflessness.

I’ve known officers who have given everything to serve their communities, and I’ve seen the weight they carry, both physically and emotionally.

The long shifts, the difficult calls, the unseen battles take a toll I could barely imagine.

But I also want to be honest about what I experienced.

First and foremost, I am a child of God, just like all of His children, scattered across the earth as salt and light.

But I am also a Black man who grew up in Los Angeles in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s—a time when, let’s just say, tensions boiled.

And yet, through it all, I still have deep respect for police officers—those who truly serve with integrity, courage, and heart.

I have met officers in my work who live out their calling with honor, who protect and uplift the people they serve, and who make real sacrifices to keep others safe.

This blog is for them—for the officers who stand for justice, for the ones who wear the badge with honor, and for those who need strength, protection, and encouragement in the line of duty.

Here are some Bible verses to remind you that you are never alone in your calling.

Bible Verses for Police Officers

What Does the Bible Say About Being a Police Officer?

The Bible supports the role of law enforcement as a God-ordained duty to protect the innocent, uphold justice, and bring order to society. Here are key verses that apply to police officers:

1. God Ordains Authority and Justice

Romans 13:1-4“Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. … For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.”

Biblical Truth: Police officers are servants of justice, fulfilling a God-given role to maintain law and order.

2. Serving with Integrity

Micah 6:8“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

Biblical Truth: Officers are called to act justly, show mercy, and serve with humility in their role.

3. Defending the Weak

Psalm 82:3-4“Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”

Biblical Truth: Law enforcement reflects God’s heart by protecting the vulnerable and stopping evil.

One of the most powerful Psalms for police officers is Psalm 91, often called the Psalm of Protection. It is a prayer of safety and refuge for those in dangerous situations.

Psalm 91:11-12

“For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”

Biblical Truth: God’s divine protection is over officers as they face danger in their duty to serve.

Other Psalms that encourage police officers:

  • Psalm 23:4 “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
  • Psalm 46:1“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
  • Psalm 144:1“Praise be to the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle.”

Biblical Truth: These Psalms remind officers that God is their protector and guide in all circumstances.

Philippians 4:13 is a powerful verse for police officers facing challenges, exhaustion, and danger in their daily work.
